Me & My 18" Doll Book Review {And A Giveaway}

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

I was honored to be asked by Erin Hentzel, the Author of the new book, Me & My 18" Doll, if I would like to review her book and share a project here on my blog.    I'm always excited to sew for Jillian and Rosetta's collection of American Girl Dolls so of course I said yes.

Our family is driving to Arizona to spend Thanksgiving with our son and I've been thinking that my little grand-girls need a suitcase for their dolls and doll clothes.  You have to have a new suitcase for a trip right?   Well guess what?  Erin has the most beautiful pattern in her book for matching suitcases for little girls and their doll!

 The front of these precious suitcases are a combination of patchwork and hexie flowers... both things that I love.   The picture in the book (above) of suitcases uses Linen and Liberty fabric which are always so gorgeous together.

I've recently been enjoying the combination of ticking fabric and bright happy flowers so this was what I chose to use for the fabric on my suitcase.    I made my hexie flower a little larger than the pattern called for and I added hand quilting.  Most of you know that hand quilting is my passion and adding it to any sewing project is always a win for me!

I loved making this darling suitcase.  It just makes me smile to look at it!

This pattern was given a 3 star rating in terms of difficulty, which is Intermediate, and I would agree with that.  It is not particularly hard but definitely requires a fair bit of sewing experience.

If you have a fear of sewing zippers, do not fear this pattern! The instructions are so clear and the zipper goes in with no issues at all.

I'm so in love with this darling suitcase that I kind of want one for myself!  I'm sure I could find something to use it for right?  It is so sweet.

The large suitcase is big enough for two dolls to lay side by side with their clothes tucked in next to them.  Perfect for traveling!

I love the inside of the suitcase.  It really is such a great design.

The little doll size suitcase will hold a lot of accessories.   And it is so cute!!

This is a beautiful book with gorgeous projects.   If you love to sew for your child or grand-child's dolls please get this book!  You will be so happy with it.  I read it from front to back and I'm so impressed with the step by step instructions and pictures to make it easy to follow.

I'm super excited to be able to offer one reader a digital copy of Erin's book.  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this blog post!  This giveaway is open until Friday, November 15.  You can also enter my giveaway by following me on Instagram @redfeedsack and leave a comment on my post there!   If you do not win the giveaway never fear!  The book is available for purchase on Amazon here.

Please follow along through the next week with all these amazing makers to see what they are sewing from this beautiful book.

  9. Oh my gosh, the ticking is just perfect for these cute suitcases. I love what you’ve made. I’ve been wondering what to use to make the suitcase and now I’m thinking I might go with some ticking that’s been sitting in my stash just begging to be used.
