Celebrating 100 and a Giveaway!

Saturday, July 26, 2014

A couple weeks ago when I was doing a little updating and formatting on my blog I realized that my next blog post would be my 100th!  I decided it was cause for celebration.  So I began to think a little bit about doing a really fun blog post and a giveaway.  Then this happened....

If you read my July Monthly Moos post here, or if you follow the blog that my daughter and I write here, then you know that she and I started a little business of selling our heirloom flower bouquets.  It started out very simple and the first couple weeks were just easy with bouquets selling slowly and consistently.

And then overnight it exploded.  And we got so busy we didn't know which way was up.  So, my special 100th blog post didn't get written!

These precious little grand-girls of mine are amazing.  They keep themselves very entertained while we work madly and crazily whipping out bouquets before our customers beat us to the flower trailer!

We are having the time of our lives.  Laughing, picking flowers, washing jars, making labels, getting the flowers to the flower trailer and set up as fast as we can, and then walking (well, running) away  and letting our customers take their time choosing flowers and putting their money in the drop box.  (The reason we run is because we are sweaty, dirty, and exhausted!)  We love the honor system, love the customers we've met, love the smiles on the faces of the children that buy flowers for friends (and glad for Facebook so their Mommies can tag us in the pictures they take!).

And we love our flowers.   I ran down to the flower garden in the rain last weekend and picked  flowers to make the above bouquet for a friend who was celebrating her 90th birthday.  I felt like this bouquet was so full of love.  It was such a fun gift to be able to give.

So.... I know you are waiting for the giveaway!  Please leave a comment about your favorite flower to put in an arrangement and next Saturday a random winner will be chosen to receive three packages of my favorite heirloom seeds from Baker Creek Seeds.  (Since I can't send you one of my bouquets, this is the next best thing!)

And a very big thank you to my faithful blog readers, some of whom have been with me through every one of my one hundred blog posts!

  5. I "love" your farm fresh farm stand and all of the flower bouquets that you and your daughter sell. Such a cute idea. I don't think that I've ever met a flower that I didn't love. Yesterday, I made up a bouquet using lavender and coral canyon twinspur. Congratulations on your 100th posting. I love following your blog, your daughters blog and the farm fresh blog that you both have.

  6. Hi Dori,

It doesn't seem like 100 posts, but that means they are fun to read. I have enjoyed keeping up with you all throught your blog and someday we will again head east and hope to see you. I made your Red Velvet Cake, frosting too, for Fyonna's birthday and it was delicious. I didn't do the layers as we were somewhat limited but it was still good. The flowers are beautiful. I enjoy most any, but really like sunflowers. I like the flowers that come on lavender, but that is more of a plant.:) So, if for whatever reason I win just send me whatever you think would grow best out here in Arizona. Take care, Genevieve Winters

  18. SUNFLOWERS! They are simple, happy, bright, and don't need anything to go with them. A single one or a whole bunch doesn't matter. I have enjoyed three giant ones on my kitchen table all week, that I got at the local farmers market. I'm still waiting for my giant ones to bloom. Whenever I look at sunflowers they make me happy inside.

  25. What a great idea of having a flower cart and using the honor system. Love that! I only wish I lived closer so I could buy some of your beautiful flowers. My favorite flower is the tiger lily I loved them as a little girl. When I go for my morning run they boarder the path that I jog on. I love looking at them as they bring back fond memories of my childhood.

  34. Congrats on your 100 posts. I have enjoyed following you and your daughter and am inspired by both. I love all flowers, but geraniums hold a special place in my heart as they remind me of my mom I lost a few years ago. Her birthday was in May so I would always buy her them for her birthday as well as Mother's Day. She had such a green thumb and loved gardening so much all flowers seem to bring her to my mind! kbender@esu7.org

  36. This is my first time visiting The Red Feedsack and I just love your idea of making bouquets of garden flowers. I love garden bouquets and I like to give them from my own flower gardens. I suppose the sunflower is my favorite flower, but really, I love them all. Whatever is in season is my current favorite. Since I have an abundance of dill, I always add a little dill in my bouquets for a beautiful filler. Larkspur is another pretty flower I like to fill with. LOVE your bouquets. Have fun!

  37. Happy 100th! I absolutely love your beautiful bouquets, no wonder you are having a hard time keeping up with demand :>) These rival anything in a flower shop. I love zinnias the most and I see lots of bright and pretty ones in your bouquets.

  40. Hi! My favorite flower, at least this summer is the Sunflower. I like its cheery face! ( A little side note: there is a man here in town in Colorado who has started hauling his water in a trailer just like your flower cart! I think about yours when I see it, and think what a waste! He could be selling flowers out of that thing!)
