A Pinnie A Day {And A Giveaway!}

Sunday, September 3, 2017

Hello Friends!  It's been cool and rainy here the last couple days and it's feeling a little bit like Fall.  For those of you that know me, you know that I love summer so when it starts feeling like Fall, I start getting a little sad! Our flowers sort of shut down in the cool rain, so we are hoping for some warm sunshine to get them blooming again and carry us through some big events that have reserved flowers from us this month. But... even though every day is super busy with flower farming and all other summertime fun things (like a week long trip to the beach!) I participated in a fun little challenge on Instagram called the Pinnie Parade.

GIVEAWAY CLOSED!
Congratulations to our IG winner Margie!

I can hear you now.  A Pinnie Parade?  What in the world is a Pinnie Parade?  Well, in the sewing world we call our darling little Pin Cushions "Pinnies" and we love them!  This challenge called for a Pinnie a day for the month of August.  I jumped in on the challenge for a couple reasons.

One is that I never have a lot of time to sew in the summertime and so the thought of being able to sit down and sew something very quick, very fun and very easy every day for a month was just exactly the push I needed to get that little bit of "down time" in my sewing room.

The second reason is that I have so many teeny tiny scraps in my fabric stash that I knew it would be fun to pull those out and use them again!

So I jumped on the Pinnie Parade and took the challenge - a Pinnie A Day for 31 days!

My Pinnies from week one were so fun.  I used some of my favorite techniques and some of my very favorite fabric scraps.  (There are only six pictured because I helped my little grand-girl Rosetta make her first Pinnie and she took it home with her!)

Week two was even more fun.  I found myself really looking forward to that 15 - 20 minutes a day where I pulled out scraps, and quickly put together a Pinnie!

Week three came and I got a little panicky because we were going to the beach for a week and how was I going to keep up?  I took a few Pinnie's that I started and while we were on vacation I enjoyed doing some hand work to finish them up.  So even on vacation I managed to keep up!

The last week I finished up a few more at the beach and then wouldn't you know it.  When we get home I hit the ground running with flowers and a house warming party that my daughter and I hosted.  So I missed a few days and had to play catch up!  But the last week of Pinnie's were some of my favorite.

For me sewing and creating is very important in my life.  It is an outlet that keeps me going through all of the struggles and disappointments in life - whether they are big or small!  And even when things are going just perfect, I still have to have something that encourages creativity or I find myself shutting down.

So many people asked me, "why are you making all these pin cushions"?  It is not exactly an easy question to answer.  But I do know that if you love to sew and you love fabric; you'll understand!

The other question was, "what in the world are you going to do with all these pin cushions when you are done"? That answer is simple.  "I'm going to put them in a big two-gallon jar and display them on the shelf in my sewing room because honestly, they are gorgeous".

So just admit it.  You really want them don't you?!  Smile!

But the end of the story is actually a little different than I anticipated.  Come to find out, there really were a lot of people that wanted them!  I've been asked if I would sell them.  Of course I said yes, because really do I need 31 new Pinnies - even if they are darling in the jar?  But parting with them has been a little bit hard!

If you want to buy one of the Pinnies pictured in this blog post, send me an email and describe it.  I'll let you know if it is available!

And!  YAY!  A GIVEAWAY!!!  Leave a comment telling me what your favorite creative outlet is and I'll put together a little package of Pinnie's to send to one lucky reader!  You can also follow me on Instagram @redfeedsack and leave a comment on my Giveaway post there to increase your chances of winning!

Because you want a white paper package tied up with sting full of sweet Pinnie's to arrive in your mailbox right?

Happy summer friends.  (It's still summertime in my book!)

  8. Gosh I am so excited you are doing this giveaway! My favorite creative outlet is painting my home and decorating it. I love how the feel of each room can change with just a coat of paint and moving furniture around. I also love to cook/bake. Lastly, I home-school my sweet daughter, that is quite a creative outlet. I wish I could also officially follow you on instagram, but I have not joined. However, I do keep up with you daily on there and enjoy it very much....your pictures are calming, peaceful, and full of inspiration for me.

  11. Thanks Dori, you are so creative and I'd have a hard time parting with those adorable pinnies! I create decorative things from treasures I find in woods, etc. In the summer I spend a lot of time gardening and making sure I sit on my garden bench and enjoy my efforts. Thanks for sharing your pinnies with us. Blessings, Cathy in Idaho

  15. I enjoy making my "daisy totes" out of recycled feedsacks. I am just beginning to explore the world of fabric sewing and I think I will be hooked pretty quickly. I love them all, but favor the one marked "Rifle Paper Co." because of the French writing underneath, an homage to my lovely late momma.
Thank you for sharing your challenge! ;0D

  17. I've had so many creative outlets in my life, but I've finally found quilting which makes my heart sing. I started a quilt group of ladies to make quilts for Hospice patients. We make them about 55" x 75" so the patient can be covered while lying in a recliner. Our ladies come, select the fabric from our donated wall of fabric, piece the quilt, then finish it on the longarm named Bertha. All free if it's for hospice. We all chip in for rolls of batting. We would be thrilled with little "pinnies".
